The dissertation introduction is not directly related to scientific research, but the work begins with it. The main task facing the applicant in writing the dissertation introduction is a convincing statement of the facts confirming the relevance of the issue or problem under study.

An dissertation introduction to the work of a future candidate of science should not only have a larger scope, but also demonstrate knowledge of the subject area, the ability to find new approaches to solving existing scientific problems, to prove the relevance of this discovery or new methodology.

The total volume of the dissertation introduction is about 10 percent of the entire text, that is, 10-15 pages or 3 500-4 000 words. The recommended structure includes the following sections:

  • Relevance. Example: “Now the commercial real estate market involves the widespread use of business mortgages, which are at the stage of formation in the Russian Federation. The implementation of new mortgage schemes will help business representatives to avoid risks and make property purchases. ”

  • Scientific novelty of the study. Example: “A number of papers focusing on housing mortgages are devoted to studying the problem. The legally admissible form of business mortgage has not been studied. ”
  • The main results, which are necessarily mentioned at the beginning of the master and PhD thesis.
